My hands started shaking the moment I saw it.
A gray, glistening lump on the bathroom floor, staring back at us in awful silence.
We whispered, argued, zoomed in on photos, our hearts racing as the possibilities grew darker and more disturbing by the minute.
For a moment, the bathroom felt like the set of a low-budget horror film.
The object was small, oddly smooth, with a dull sheen that made it look almost… deliberate.
My wife kept her distance, hovering by the door, while I leaned in closer, torn between curiosity and the urge to bleach the entire house.
We joked nervously, but neither of us really laughed.
We tried everything: Google image search, group chats, frantic messages to friends who “watch too many crime shows.”
No one knew. Then our cat sauntered in, eyes bright, vibrating with pride. He walked straight to the mystery lump, sat down beside it like a hunter posing with a trophy.
That was the moment it clicked. It wasn’t supernatural, and it wasn’t human. It was rat kidneys, a gruesome little gift from our very pleased feline roommate.
