A shooting has been reported at Aysel Çalık High School in the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş. Multiple police and medical teams have been sent to the school.

Kahramanmaraş Governor Yunluer told an AA reporter that there was an armed attack at Ayser Çalık High School for reasons still unknown.

Stating that the incident had occurred very recently, Yunluer said: "There is an attack going on right now. A tragic incident has occurred at one of our schools. We have received information that there are injuries. We are investigating the case thoroughly."

Yunluer later stated, "Unfortunately, there is a loss of life."

The governor of Kahramanmaraş reported that there were 4 dead and 20 injured. He said the attacker had targeted two classrooms.

According to initial reports, the suspect first fired shots into the air in the schoolyard before entering the building and continuing to shoot,  HurriyetDailyNews reported.

He said that one of the dead was a teacher and three were students. It was learned that the attacker came to the school with 5 pistols and 7 magazines and it was announced that the attacker was killed.

The Ministry of Education said in a statement that the incident at the high school "deeply saddened the entire society" and confirmed that security forces and health teams intervened immediately after the attack, Daily Sabah reported.

The ministry said a comprehensive investigation had been launched and that senior officials, including two general directors and a department head, had been sent to Sanliurfa to coordinate operations on the ground. It added that inspectors from both the provincial directorate and the ministry's central organization had been assigned to the investigation.

Psychosocial support teams are also on site to assist students, teachers and families affected by the incident, and rehabilitation measures are already being taken.

The statement noted that classes at the school have been suspended for four days while authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured. The ministry added that the process is being followed “with diligence and determination” and that the legal proceedings will be monitored by the ministry’s General Directorate of Legal Services.

As BLITZ reported, just the day before in Şanlıurfa, a 19-year-old opened fire at his former school, the Anatolian Vocational and Technical High School "Ahmet Koyuncu". He killed 16 people and then committed suicide.

A month ago in Istanbul, teacher Fatma Nur Çelik was stabbed by one of her students.
