The first cherries have already appeared on the cooperative markets, and interest in their consumption, as every year, remains high.
In recent weeks, consumers have reported higher than typical prices, which has sparked mixed reactions.
At the cooperative market in Veliko Tarnovo, for example, a kilogram of cherries reached 60 leva - a value that surprised many.
A check by "News Today" showed that the fruit is currently being sold locally for 4 leva per 100 grams, or 40 leva per kilogram.
In the capital, prices are lower - between 13 and 15 BGN per kilogram, with traders and buyers expecting the value to decrease at the end of the month or at the beginning of June, with the arrival of larger quantities of domestic production.
There are several reasons for the high prices. Among the leading factors are the changeable weather during the spring months and the fact that the first cherries on the fruit exchanges are usually imported, which further increases the cost of the final product.
