A Trump supporter was left deeply disappointed after spending $640 on a limited-edition Trump-themed watch, only to discover a surprising mistake when the package arrived.
Tim Petit, from Middletown, Rhode Island, said he ordered the pink watch as a gift for his wife, Melanie. The item was promoted as a limited-edition model, with only 250 pieces available, which made it feel special and collectible. He thought it would be a meaningful surprise, especially because his wife admired the design.
According to Petit, he first became interested after hearing an advertisement for the watch. The product was promoted through a Trump-themed website, and the limited quantity made the purchase feel even more exclusive. He believed the gift would be something memorable for his wife.
When the watch arrived, the couple was initially pleased with the presentation. It came in a decorative case, and the pink design included festive details. But their excitement quickly faded when they looked more closely at the watch face.
The name was misspelled.
Instead of reading “TRUMP,” the watch appeared to say “RUMP,” with the first letter missing.
Melanie noticed the mistake almost immediately. What was supposed to be a special and emotional gift quickly turned into a moment of disappointment. Tim said he had wanted to do something thoughtful for his wife and had expected a product connected to such a high-profile political brand to arrive without such an obvious error.
He said the situation was especially upsetting because the gift had been intended as a meaningful gesture. For him, the mistake was not only about the watch itself, but about the lack of care and quality control behind the product.
The watch was marketed as part of a Trump-branded collection, though the fine print reportedly states that the Trump name and likeness are licensed and that the watches are not directly designed, produced, or sold by Trump, the Trump Organization, or related entities.
Petit said he tried several times to contact customer service but was unhappy with the response at first. After the story gained attention, the company eventually replaced the watch, apologized, and reportedly offered him an additional coupon.
In the end, the couple received a corrected replacement, but the incident still sparked conversation online. For some, it was an amusing product mistake. For others, it raised questions about quality control, political merchandise, and the expectations customers have when paying a premium price for a collectible item.
What began as a thoughtful gift became an unexpected controversy over one missing letter.
